Writopialab comes to Freebird Books and Goods Bookstore in Brooklyn

This Manhattan based non-profit organization teaches creative writing workshops to kids 9-13 and is looking forward to writing and revising with your teens, tweens, and kids. Starting this summer, Freebird's sunny front room will accomodate small workshops on weekday mornings and early afternoons; classes will culminate in public readings at the store and area venues.

Writopialab sets out to create a community of young writers, providing an open, safe, and nurturing space for youth who are highly engaged in creative and intellectual endeavors - and not without success: Writopia's middle and high school students won more national writing awards from Scholastic in 2008 than did any other group of students in the entire country and one 8th grader won the highest regional award this year from Scholastic's Art and Writing Awards. Please check out the website to peruse the workshop schedule and sliding scale fees. As part of the mission, 40% of Writopia's young writers are offered heavily discounted fees in order to ensure that they can join. Become a distinguished writer today!
